BIRD OF PREY Announce New Guitarist

June 13, 2006

According to Rockdetector.com, BIRD OF PREY — the band led by vocalist Kyle Michaels, a scene veteran who has previously played with MASI, ANIMAL, the GEEZER BUTLER BAND, RAVAGE the DAVID SHANKLE GROUP — has announced a new guitarist.

The group — whose musical style is self-described as "'70s heavy rock with 21st century metal tendencies" — features Michaels alongside guitarist Andrew Haller, bassist Danny Weymouth and percussionist Gregg Potter. The band had until recently also featured guitarist Jimi Bell, an adept of the GEEZER BUTLER BAND, THUNDERHEAD, WAYNE and now HOUSE OF LORDS. New man on the guitar is Matt Mercado, from Chicago's MINDBOMB and SUPERMERCADO.

BIRD OF PREY is actually a resurrection of a band name Michaels had fronted — comprising ex-ARMORED SAINT personnel — during the Eighties. Album writing sessions taking place now include compositions donated by Jon Oliva of SAVATAGE, Joe Floyd of WARRIOR and Jack Frost of SEVEN WITCHES. A late 2006 album release is expected. In addition, Kyle Michaels is also collaborating on recordings with the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA.
